This week 65 Antioch College alumni and supporters flocked to campus for the annual pre-reunion work project. Amidst sounds of jackhammers, drills, saws and grass cutters, the dedicated crew planted flowers, restored benches, painted walls, repaired stairs and pruned trees.
“We all came this week because Antioch gave so much to us,” said work project organizer Penny Storm, class of ’65.
“Some of us are more able to do things physically than put money in the pot, though we need money in the pot,” said Mac Palmer of Missoula, Montana, who first proposed the annual work project in 1985. The idea is based upon work he did as an incoming Antioch freshman in 1955, when students helped build the Glen Helen Cedar Center at orientation.
