Antioch College Alumni Association Chicago Chapter 2008-10-22 02:52:48

As word comes from New York of “progress” in ongoing negotiations for the independence of Antioch College, the first mid-semester Nonstop Learning Festival is underway in Yellow Springs, and the Antioch College Alumni Board meets in YS this weekend.

Chicago alumni, and two current Nonstop students, met last Sunday, Oct. 19, at Robin (‘63) Sheerer’s home in Oak Park.  Here’s what we discussed:

  • We developed plans for the next chapter event, a fundraiser for Antioch and Nonstop at the premiere of my film The First Breath of Tengan Rei at the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St. in Chicago.  The film screens Nov. 21, 22 and 24.  Before the Nov. 22 8pm screening, we will hold a fundraising reception from 6-8pm in the Film Center’s Gallery Café.  To get involved with the event, drop me a line at edmkoz@hotmail.com.  Lots more information on this will be forthcoming as plans solidify.  For more on the film see http://www.tenganrei.com or

http://www.new.facebook.com/event.php?eid=30186574676

  • Those attending unanimously agreed to support the nomination of chapter members James Hobart ‘58 and Susan Greene ‘77 to stand as candidates for the Alumni Board.  The nominations committee selects the slate of candidates this weekend.  You can write nominating committee chair Tim Klass at tdklass@hotmail.com to support their nominations, or to offer a nomination of your own.

  • Prexy Nesbitt ‘67, a local educator who is one of nine members of the Pro Tem Board, which will become the Antioch College Board of Trustees upon the college’s independence, will be the featured speaker at a chapter meeting Dec. 14 from 3-5pm at the Oak Park Library, 834 Lake St.

  • To recruit students for Nonstop and for the anticipated independent Antioch College, we are seeking organizations that work with people who fit the profile of potential students.  If you have ideas of, or connections to, organizations, that we can work with to recruit students, and help promote the diversity of the student body, contact Beth Richards ‘04 at insanedeity@gmail.com.

  • We are planning a rapid response calling party to raise funds for Antioch College, upon news of the school’s independence.  To get involved contact Robin Sheerer at careerprz@aol.com.

Please write with any ideas, suggestions, or questions.  More information on all these items to come.

Thanks,

Ed M. Koziarski ‘97
