C. Sterling, Antioch College class of 1956, and retired Washington
state worker, of Wimberley, TX, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. She was
born July 2, 1933.
Obituary: Mark Moses Newman

Mark
Moses Newman, Antioch College class of 1958, died Friday, October 23,
2009, of lung cancer. He was a Patent Attorney retired from United
States Patent and Trademark Office and Counsel to Barnes and Thornburg.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana; sister, Minna Nathanson;
brother-in-law, Jim Nathanson; sister-in-law, Joyce Newman and many
nieces and nephews. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the
family asks that contributions may be made to Antioch College Revival
Fund, In Memory of Mark Newman, P.O. Box 444, Yellow Springs, OH 45387.
Ganges ’71 Joins Board Pro Tem

Antioch College alumni Tendaji Ganges ’71, has been appointed to the board Pro Tempore for Antioch College.
A former member of the Antioch College Alumni Board, Ganges works as
Assistant to the Chancellor and Executive Director, Educational
Opportunity Initiatives at the University of Michigan-Flint.
In addition to his work with assistance programs at the University of
Michigan-Flint, Tendaji is a community activist in the areas of social
justice issues generally and anti-racism specifically. He is also
active with various cultural groups, including African American and
Hispanic American, and works also with various leadership development
organizations. He also serves on a regional foundation board.

Blackhawk ’68, founder and executive director of InsideOut Literary Arts
Project, was a guest at the White House yesterday, November 4, 2009, where she accepted
the Coming Up Taller Award, an honor bestowed annually by the President’s
Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. Blackhawk accepted the award on behalf of InsideOut’s Citywide Poets
program.
Morgan Fellows to Host Inaugural Symposium

The inaugural group of Antioch
College Morgan Fellows announced today that they would be hosting the
first in a series of symposia, to be held during the course of the
2009/10 academic year. The first symposia, “The Daily Struggle of
Immigrant Workers,” will take place in The Coretta Scott King Center
for Cultural and Intellectual Freedom, One Morgan Place, Yellow
Springs, Ohio.
“This issue has national importance and implications and also resonates
within our own geographic community. The increasingly acrimonious
national immigration debates reverberate throughout Ohio,” says Anne
Bohlen, Morgan Fellow ’09. “Many citizens are working for immigration
reform and assisting the growing communities of immigrants throughout
the state. Antioch College has historically educated students to
become engaged citizens in their communities, to have a commitment to
social justice and equality, and to act to redress inequalities and
injustice.”
