ACCC optimistic for college
Recent weeks have been like “the last leg of a relay race” that organizers hope will result in the creation of an independent Antioch College, leaders of the Antioch College Continuation Corporation, or ACCC, said last week.
“My feeling is that we will be successful and that there will be an Antioch College with people on the campus again, doing the things the college should be doing,” Matt Derr, the ACCC’s chief transition officer, stated to the Antioch College Alumni Board, which met in Yellow Springs last weekend. Antioch College Alumni Board announces 2009 election results
Eleven Antioch College Alumni Association board members were elected by Antioch alumni constituents via electronic ballots and paper ballots during the 2009 election. In addition, one person was appointed to a vacant board seat following the election. Fifteen Antiochians stood for election on the 2009 ballot. Continued…

Antioch Review wins National Magazine Award

The Antioch Review has announced that it has been named a finalist in the essay category for the 44th Annual National Magazine Award. This is the first time the Review has been a finalist for this award. The winning essay is Vickie’s Pour House: A Soldier’s Peace by Maureen McCoy. The Reorganization Program for Antioch College
Antioch College, located at Yellow Springs, Ohio, near Springfield and Dayton, was opened in 1852, being the first college in the United States to admit men and women on equal terms Horace Mann was President from the opening of the college until his death. The buildings furnish about 2 acres of floor space, are substantially built and with moderate repairs and equipment will reasonably meet the needs of 500 students. Continued…
Obituary: Mary Leuba ’50
Mary Leuba ’50
Former Yellow Springs resident Mary B. Leuba of Raleigh, North Carolina, died on March 24, 2007, from injuries sustained in a fall. She was 80 and was a 1950 graduate of Antioch College.
Mary was raised on a farm, near Weiser, Idaho, and was valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She earned a bachelors degree from Antioch College in 1950 and a masters of social work from the University of California at Berkeley in 1960. She first worked as a social worker with the juvenile court, and her work with disadvantaged youth led to her becoming a founding official of Partners of Wake County, where she was the senior counselor until her retirement in 1991.

Antioch alumnus Ted Bunch ’83 is a national leader with A CALL TO MEN which works to end violence against women by facilitating a national movement of men who see that as their mission. All across the country anti-violence organizations benefit from Ted’s ideas and his passion.

On Tuesday, June 16, the staff of the College Revival Fund gathered at the newly re-opened Corner Cone in downtown Yellow Springs to bid a fond farewell to Chelsea Martens ’08. Chelsea has served as Community Manager for most of two years and has been a beacon of stability, integrity, and hope for Antiochians everywhere as we walk together this hard road toward independence.
