Obituary Edith Elinor King ’37

Edith Elinor King died on June 29. She was 95.

Edith was born in Charleston, S.C., daughter of Harold Davis King and Edith Etta Thompson King. She grew up in Baltimore. Her father was commissioner of lighthouses for the United States.

Edith came to Yellow Springs in 1932 to attend Antioch College, where she earned her degree in psychology in 1937. While an Antioch student, Edith christened the lighthouse ship Nantucket. Her photo adorned the bulkhead. Fifty years later, the Nantucket Historical Society invited her back to rechristen the ship.

Antiochians Celebrate Agreement for Independent Antioch College

As the rest of the country gears up for the July 4th holiday, the word independence means something quite different for alumni, students, friends, former faculty, staff and supporters of Antioch College this week. On Tuesday June 30th at 12pm, the Great Lakes Collegiate Association released the news that the boards of Antioch University and the Antioch College Continuation Corporation (ACCC) each unanimously voted in favor of a set of definitive agreements for the creation of an independent college in Yellow Springs, Ohio, including the transfer of the campus and endowment. 

The agreement is the culmination of two years of courageous effort from Antiochians and supporters of Antioch College.  The news spread quickly, with over 230 press hits, including the most recent from US News & World Report which hailed “The Antioch College Comeback”.

the 50th Anniversary of the Twilight Zone, as well as a full celebration of the
future of Antioch College!

With the incredibly good news about our
beloved alma mater this weekend, I’ve seen a lot of interest pick up in Reunion
’09 in Yellow Springs. We’d love to see tons of people on campus and celebrating
this victory for humanity!

We have a tentative schedule for Reunion
online right now here. You’ll see that not all events will require
a a registration fee—we tried to keep as many events as open as possible,
including the State of the College, featuring members of the Board Pro Tem.
Additionally, there are reduced fees for alumni who have graduated within the
past 10 years. Registration forms will be mailed soon, and we will have on-line
registration up and running soon as well. If you have suggestions for additions
to the schedule or changes, please e-mail us at reunion@revivalfund.org. We have to lock in the schedule as
soon as possible, so please send in your suggestions by July 7,
2009.

FAQ’s on the Alumni Board Election

Here is a comprehensive description, mostly from Fred Kraus, longtime
staff aide to the Alumni Board’s Nominating Committee, of the procedure
for the last election and the subsequent filling of a vacant seat on
the board.
 
The process of voting for many years has been to
send each alum a self-standing hard-copy ballot via snail mail.  In the
past five years we have also incorporated online voting as an option. 
Some have proposed that we  eventually move to all-electronic voting,
but that would eliminate a sizable portion of the alumni and thus is
not under active consideration.

Antioch University and Antioch College Continuation Corp. Reach Accord

Ann Arbor, MI–With support from the Great Lakes Colleges Association
(GLCA), the boards of Antioch University and the Antioch College
Continuation Corporation (ACCC) each unanimously voted in favor of a
set of definitive agreements for the creation of an independent college
in Yellow Springs, Ohio, including the transfer of the campus and
endowment. Once all conditions are met, the transfer will occur in late
summer.
