This Week on Campus: On a Trip up the Bell Tower

The bell of Antioch College rang out again this week and could be heard
all around Yellow Springs and through the farms and the Glen.  Matthew
Derr ‘89(Chief Transition officer), Emily McCord (WYSO News), Scott
Sanders (Antiochiana), Ron Hampton (Buildings and Grounds Manager), and
I, Micah Canal ‘08(Assistant Director of Advancement), climbed
carefully the rickety ladder that grants access to the bell tower of
Antioch Hall.

Antiochian Timothy Barrett ’73 Awarded MacArthur Fellowship

Timothy Barrett is an internationally recognized master craftsman and
paper historian who is preserving and enhancing the art of
hand-papermaking through his work as a practitioner, scholar, and
teacher. Combining the skills of artist, ethnographer, scientist, and
historian, he documents and demonstrates centuries-old hand-papermaking
practices that may otherwise be lost.

Rabbi Doug Kohn ‘81 On a New Year and a New Antioch College

Last weekend was Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year. This week’s alumni interview is with Rabbi Doug Kohn ’81. Rabbi Kohn graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH, in 1981, and received his Masters Degree in Hebrew Letters from the Hebrew Union College (Los Angeles) in 1985.  Rabbi Kohn was ordained at the Hebrew Union College (Cincinnati) in 1987.  He has published numerous articles in the press and in Jewish periodicals, and in his academic interest, American Jewish archives and history, and is “foreign correspondent” for the San Bernardino Sun, as he has written several feature series from his frequent travels to Israel and Europe.
