As the task force charged with negotiating the separation of Antioch University from the college passed the midway mark last week on its way toward finalizing an agreement, college alumni representatives were working furiously to raise the money to insure a successful independent college. On the fundraising trail in California this week, task force member Lee Morgan said that the task force is making significant progress toward an agreement and that alumni across the country are beginning to rally toward the goal to raise $15 million by the end of April.

“What’s an Antiochian gathering without the police,” joked Chief
Transition Officer Matthew Derr ’89. The DC meeting, held on Saturday,
March 21 at the Mott House, had a packed house–over 70 people were
trying to fit into the meeting room where Derr and Chair of the Antioch
College Continuation Corporation Board Pro Tem Lee Morgan ’69 were
talking and answering questions. Karen Mulhauser, ’65,  attempted to
find more room for alums and opened up the doors to the porch–and
that’s when the alarms went off.

Continued Progress in Effort to Create Newly Independent Antioch College
Work on Definitive Agreement Process Underway

Ann Arbor, MI–Forty-five days after the signing of a letter of intent by the chairs of the Board Pro Tempore
of the Antioch College Continuation Corporation and the Antioch University Board of Governors,
both parties met in Boston, Massachusetts.

Present at the meeting were Taskforce members Matthew Derr, Chief Transition Officer for the Antioch
College Continuation Corporation, Richard Detweiler, President of the Great Lakes Colleges Association,
Daniel Fallon, Vice Chair of the Antioch University Board of Governors, Jack Mersellis, Antioch University
Trustee and Lee Morgan, Chair of the Board Pro Tempore of the Antioch College Continuation
Corporation. Joining the Taskforce for the meeting in Boston were Toni Murdock, Chancellor of Antioch
University and Art Zucker, Chair of the Antioch University Board of Trustees.

With an action list of approximately 45 items, the Taskforce has reached agreement on 35 items and
has general consensus on the remainder. The Taskforce is now relying heavily on the work of independent
legal counsel and both parties’ attorneys have begun to write what is hoped will ultimately become
one or more definitive agreements. “This is a complicated legal and financial process, but the continued
good will and collaboration is really paying off as we get closer to the completion of the work of the Taskforce,”
said Richard Detweiler, who serves as mediator and chair of the Taskforce.

College Awaits Rebirth as Its Library Labors On

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio — A visit to Antioch College, which closed last
summer, is a bit like a “Twilight Zone” episode — the picturesque
small-town campus has no students or faculty, but it does have a
functioning library.

The professional effort to dry out Main Building following
a flood last month is almost finished, according to Antioch University
Chief Financial Officer Tom Faecke in an interview last week. While university
leaders had hoped that the effort would take only two weeks, it is ending
up taking three, Faecke said.
