Video and notes from 11/14/10 Chicago chapter meeting and video conference with Mark Roosevelt

Posted by Ed Koziarski

I’ve posted video and notes from the 11/14/10 Chicago chapter meeting and video conference with incoming college president Mark Roosevelt.

Notes are here:

Video in three parts:
1. Jennifer Berman, Community and Governance

2. Mark Roosevelt Video Conference

3. Volunteering, Community, Faculty

The biggest revelations to me were that Roosevelt seemed to indicate room for movement on the limit of 25 students in 2011, and Jennifer’s mention of a plan to house recent alumni on campus to model Antioch community to entering students (wouldn’t it be even better to admit returning students?)

There are a few gaps in the video due to technical problems, most notable of which is the exchange paraphrased below:

Kelly Connolly ’03, chapter organizer: Many of us who graduated from the college have formed very strong relationships with the faculty that we’ve sustained after leaving. The faculty have worked so hard to bring the college back, and they’re been treated so disrespectfully. If they’re not treated with more respect, the college is going to lose alumni who graduated in the 80s, 90s and 00s. If the faculty are not part of the college, we’re going to sustain a relationship with them, and not with the college.

Roosevelt: I understand there are complex legal and ethical issues around faculty hiring, and there are very strong opinions from people who take very different positions on the issue. It hurts to hear you say they’ve been treated disrespectfully. I hope we can come to a resolution, but it’s never going to fully please everybody.

Audio recording of conference call Q&A with incoming president Mark Roosevelt

This is the full recording of the Antioch College Alumni Association Chapters Committee conference call from Monday November 15th which featured Q&A with incoming Antioch College President Mark Roosevelt. This was live streamed to 24 people and over 60 people were on the call.

Special thanks to Karen Mulhauser for organizing this call and collecting questions for Mark. This is hopefully the first of many.

Note – Apologies for the noise at the very end, Skype apparently decided to ignore the fact that I had the built in microphone on my laptop muted and you can here me (Matt Baya) speaking in the background. Wont happen again.

If anyone can take the time to make a transcript of this call or has the ability to pipe this into ‘Dragon Naturally Speaking’ or some other speech to text utility  it would be great to have that done and we can post the transcript here.
